Junior Team Tennis League 8/U

FULL INFORMATION

Season 1, 2019: Individual competition with two tournaments per season

Get your child on that pathway to compete in tennis! Prepare them for School Teams, SPEX Tournaments, and perhaps the Pro Tour! If you have not already signed up for our revamped JTTL 8/U make sure to do so soon! The first tournament of the season is the Grand Slam 8/U Melbourne on Sunday, 17th of March (RED) and Sunday, 24th of March (ORANGE) 9am - 11.30pm! This Red and Orange Ball tournament is open to kids ages 5 to 8 years old--perfect ages to start playing live tennis matches. Fun events like this allow young players to progress on the pathway to tournament playing rapidly. Players will begin learning independence and sportsmanship on the tennis court, such as scoring on their own and conduct proper etiquette as a tennis player. There will be round robin singles matches, fast moving, different opponents, and a focus on fun!

JTTL 8/U hosts a series of four tournaments throughout the year (two tournaments per season) in conjunction with all four of the regular Grand Slams (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open). Players will stamp their passports at entry, and collect points for each tournament they compete in. Players with the highest total of points after the four Grand Slam 8/U tournaments will be invited to the JTTL 8/U Finals at the end of the year.

  • Players will play on appropriate-sized courts (Red Court - 36’) or (Orange Court - 60') and with Low Compression Red or Orange balls
  • Players must be able to at least bounce serve, and hold a rally of 4 shots
  • Singles Round Robin format - Players will play up to a maximum of 10 matches
  • Each round is 7 minutes, while scoring as many points as possible in each round(1, 2, 3, 4, etc.)
  • Each player will rotate serves every 2 points (underarm or overarm, with second serves)
  • Players must be behind the “baseline” when serving. There are no specifics in direction except in the service box
  • The baseline for Red Ball is the doubles side line and the baseline for Orange Ball is the 3/4 court chalk-marked line
  • After each round, players will record the number of points they won on their score cards, with the assistance of roaming umpires
  • There will be frequent water breaks throughout the tournament
  • Trophies are awarded to the top point scorers in each of the three groups

6. Rankings

Using the theme of a "Grand Slam" for all four, in a series of four tournaments, players will accumulate points for each tournament they attend. The players will be awarded one ranking point per point won. The players who accumulate the most points after the four "Grand Slams" will be invited to the JTTL 8/U Finals at the end of the year. Which will actually be a fifth tournament. Please click on the links below to view the current rankings.
